In a recent committee meeting, MP Ahmed Badawi, Head of the Communications and Information Technology Committee in Egypt’s House of Representatives, praised the Ministry of Housing’s strides in digital transformation. The ministry, under the leadership of Minister Sherif El-Sherbiny, is actively working to modernize urban services and enhance digital infrastructure, particularly within the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA).
During the meeting, attended by Eng. Ahmed Samir, Assistant Deputy of NUCA for Planning and Projects and Executive Director of the Spatial Data and Digital Transformation Unit at NUCA, Badawi discussed the progress of the Ministry of Housing’s digital platform, which will consolidate all ministry projects and services. He emphasized that there is an agreement between the Ministry of Communications and the Ministry of Housing to ensure that no new city will be handed over until all fiber optic infrastructure for high-speed internet and communications has been fully implemented. According to Badawi, this step will prevent the common issue of digging up newly constructed roads to install communication lines, a practice that has previously caused disruption in several governorates.
MP Martha Mahrous, Deputy Chair of the Communications Committee, also addressed the importance of the digital initiatives. She explained that the goal of the meeting was to review the ministry’s projects aimed at improving citizen services through digital transformation. She emphasized the need for reducing human intervention in administrative processes to enhance transparency and fairness in electronic application procedures.
Mahrous added, “We envision a unified platform for all services provided by the Ministry of Housing, accessible to the public and enhancing efficiency.”
