The Coordination of Youth Parties and Politicians recently hosted Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Egypt’s Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities. During the discussion, the Minister emphasized the Ministry’s focus on developing new cities and enhancing infrastructure projects, leveraging his 20 years of hands-on experience in key locations such as Badr City, El Shorouk, New Cairo, 6th of October City, and the New Administrative Capital.
El-Sherbiny revealed that the Ministry has delivered approximately 700,000 housing units and is working on an additional 400,000 units to support low-income families and stimulate local demand. He explained that the Ministry is implementing strategies to optimize financial resources and improve efficiency across various projects.
Key initiatives include:
- Strengthening Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs): The Ministry is collaborating with private developers to deliver competitive housing units and explore new investment opportunities. Real estate marketing companies are also involved in offering benefits like extended repayment plans.
- Enhancing Infrastructure: Projects under the Decent Life Initiative focus on improving water and sanitation services in rural areas. The first phase has been completed, and phase two is underway, aiming to uplift citizens’ quality of life.
- Encouraging Investments from Abroad: By offering land and housing options for expatriates, the Ministry seeks to support the national economy and attract foreign currency.
During the event, El-Sherbiny stressed that challenges faced by the Ministry have served as a catalyst for growth, driving progress in housing, infrastructure, and community development. He highlighted the importance of on-ground collaboration to achieve sustainable goals.
The discussion was moderated by MP Amr Darwish, with participation from members of the House of Representatives, Senate, and the Coordination of Youth Parties and Politicians.
