Dr. Sayed Ismail, Deputy Minister of Housing, visited Alexandria Governorate to assess the aftermath of the recent storm and heavy rainfall that struck the area. The visit was conducted under the directives of Minister of Housing, Sherif El-Sherbiny. Accompanying him were the heads of both the Alexandria Wastewater Company and the Alexandria Drinking Water Company. During the visit, the Deputy Minister met with Deputy Governor Engineer Amira Salah, where it was confirmed that conditions had returned to normal, with traffic movement, water services, and sanitation operations all restored.
The Deputy Minister toured several affected areas in Alexandria, including the Sidi Bishr Tunnel and Sewage Pumping Station No. 4. He confirmed the safe resumption of operations at the station and the stability of both the sewage and drinking water systems.
A state of maximum alert was declared to handle any further weather fluctuations, and a technical review of all wastewater infrastructure components was initiated. The city had experienced heavy rainfall that resulted in flash floods in the eastern districts. The main Crisis Management Unit coordinated with relevant authorities to mitigate risks, with work crews and equipment deployed to address water accumulations.
The Deputy Minister announced ongoing coordination between the Alexandria Drinking Water and Wastewater Companies to handle waterlogging, thanks to cooperation with the Emergency Operations Room. Around 160 vehicles and pieces of equipment were deployed across various locations, with field teams working around the clock to respond to reports and ensure smooth traffic flow. The minister affirmed that all pumping stations were fully operational and that the emergency state would remain in place until the weather stabilized. During his visit, the Deputy Minister also inspected the equipment deployed in high-risk areas and extended his gratitude to the technical teams for their swift response.
