Dr. Sayed Ismail, Deputy Minister of Housing, convened a meeting with the Supreme Coordinating Committee responsible for developing and updating the institutional framework of drinking water and sanitation codes. The meeting was attended by several prominent figures, including Dr. Mohamed Massoud, Dr. Abdel Qawi Khalifa, and Dr. Mohamed Hassan, as well as professors from engineering faculties and research centers.
During the meeting, Dr. Sayed Ismail emphasized the critical role of committee chairs in addressing the challenges presented by the Higher Industrial Committee, particularly focusing on supporting the localization of national industries such as water and wastewater pumps.
He explained that this strategy strengthens reliance on local products and reduces the need for imports. Dr. Ismail also noted that the committee is actively analyzing issues related to daily per capita consumption in order to issue swift and effective codes aimed at servicing villages, cities, and tourist areas.
Dr. Mohamed Massoud, Chairman of the Housing and Building National Research Center, highlighted the committee’s responsibilities, which include formulating a strategy to update the drinking water and sanitation codes and monitoring the work of the permanent subcommittees. He stressed the importance of accelerating the development of new codes to ensure operational efficiency and protect infrastructure assets. This comes as part of broader efforts to enhance the performance of the water and wastewater sector and adopt innovative smart systems.
