Dr. Sayed Ismail, Deputy Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, chaired a comprehensive meeting of the High Coordination Committee tasked with updating the codes for the drinking water and sanitation system. The meeting was attended by committee members, heads of permanent subcommittees, and members of the organizational committee. This initiative is part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to enhance and modernize this vital sector, ensuring its efficiency and sustainability.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Deputy Minister emphasized the importance of updating the technical codes that govern the fields of design, implementation, operation, and maintenance. He clarified that the purpose of this update is to preserve assets and facilities, boost operational efficiency, and incorporate modern technologies and smart systems. He also stressed the need to apply value engineering principles and to rely on locally manufactured products to support the national economy and reduce dependence on imports.
The Ministry of Housing presented a strategy aimed at strengthening scientific research and fostering integration between the National Housing and Building Research Center and the Regulatory Authority for Drinking Water and Wastewater. This collaboration seeks to promote sustainable development within the utilities sector.
The meeting addressed the update of 21 specific codes related to the water system, with a focus on technical priorities. Dr. Mohamed Massoud highlighted the urgency of issuing these codes promptly while optimizing resource usage. The meeting concluded with the adoption of a set of recommendations aimed at accelerating the code updates to support the efficiency and sustainability of water facilities.
