Corniche Expansion and Building Facade Restoration Project

Engineer Sherif El-Sherbini, Minister of Housing, and Major General Ahmed Khaled, Governor of Alexandria, inspected the Alexandria Corniche Expansion and Development Project, which spans a length of 5 kilometers. The project includes the construction of tunnels and bridges to widen the road to five traffic lanes in each direction. It also encompasses the restoration of building facades. The Central Agency for Reconstruction is executing the project, which involves maritime protection works, the construction of 17 beach gates, public restrooms, and beach access points. Asphalt paving and sidewalk works are currently nearing completion.

The Minister of Housing emphasized the necessity of accommodating traffic flow along the project route during the construction phase, particularly in the summer season, while preserving the visual aesthetics of the area. He also stressed the importance of choosing suitable work hours to minimize inconvenience for beachgoers and local residents.

Additionally, the project to restore the facades of buildings along the Alexandria Corniche was reviewed. This project, implemented by Arab Contractors Company, involves facade restoration for buildings located in the districts of Gomrok, Central, East, and Montazah. The Minister highlighted the significance of proper planning to achieve the project’s objectives of preserving the architectural character and enhancing the area’s visual appeal.

Governor Khaled explained that efforts have been directed toward unifying the visual identity of the city’s corniche and beaches. This includes standardizing the colors of gates and umbrellas, painting streetlight poles, and removing encroachments and random elements. He stressed the importance of preserving the gains of development to improve quality of life and noted ongoing coordination with the Traffic Department to open the expanded sections of the corniche before the summer of 2025.
