Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, the Prime Minister of Egypt, followed up on the progress of road and utility projects in the expansion area of Sheikh Zayed City (New Zayed), accompanied by Eng. Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities; Eng. Adel El-Naggar, Governor of Giza; along with a number of officials from the Ministry of Housing.
In a press statement issued on Saturday, Eng. Sherif El-Sherbiny indicated that the ongoing works in this project are part of the continued development of roads and infrastructure in the new expansion area of Sheikh Zayed City, in accordance with Presidential Decree No. 77 of 2017, which added 8,336 acres to the city.
The minister also stated that the process of legalizing the status of land plots in the expansion area has been completed, and ministerial decrees have been issued to implement integrated urban development projects. Additionally, the main water pipeline with a diameter of 1200 mm, which supplies this area, has been completed and water has been pumped into it.
Eng. Sherif El-Sherbiny added that work on the road and utility networks in the New Sheikh Zayed expansions is ongoing, including the construction of water, sewage, and irrigation networks with a total length of 291 km. A 10-km stretch of road networks is also being constructed as part of the first phase, with preparations underway for the second phase. Meanwhile, Eng. Osama Abdel-Baset detailed the infrastructure projects, including the water pipeline that serves the expansion area and Sphinx Airport. Prime Minister Madbouly conducted an inspection tour to monitor the progress of these works.
The minister announced that the Sheikh Zayed Water Plant serves the areas of Sheikh Zayed, Sixth of October, and Smart Village. It was designed with a capacity of 450,000 m³/day, with an additional expansion increasing its capacity to 575,000 m³/day. Eng. Tarek Shams, the plant director, explained that upgrades are being carried out, including work on roads and landscaping, as well as the rehabilitation of 10 sedimentation units—2 of which have already been completed. At the end of the visit, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of accelerating work to improve the services provided.
