Specialized departments in the Development Authorities of 6th of October and El Shorouk Cities, in coordination with the police, carried out extensive campaigns resulting in the closure and sealing of illegal shops and activities, as well as the removal of violations and obstructions in both cities.
Engineer Sherif El Sherbini, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and New Urban Communities, emphasized the ministry’s commitment to preventing any signs of disorder in new cities. He reiterated the decision to prohibit the conversion of residential units into commercial spaces in order to preserve the cities’ aesthetic and organized appearance.
6th of October City
Engineer Mohamed Mostafa, Head of the 6th of October City Development Authority, explained that the campaign targeted the eastern and northern sectors, leading to the enforcement of 247 closure and sealing orders. Utility meters were removed from residential units that had been illegally converted into unlicensed commercial establishments.
The campaign also focused on several commercial centers, including Al-Hidaya, Al-Diaa, Tiba Garden, and Ittlala, as well as the Nasr Cooperation area and Gamal Abdel Nasser Walkway. Many shops in these areas were closed for violating licensing conditions and causing noise and environmental pollution. Additionally, 51 cases of immediate removal of public road obstructions were implemented, and eight “tuk-tuk” vehicles were impounded.
Engineer Ahmed Namour, Deputy Head of the 6th of October City Development Authority, confirmed that these campaigns will continue across all sectors of the city to eliminate any illegal activities.
El Shorouk City
In El Shorouk, Engineer Mohamed Sayed Abdel Maqsoud, Head of the City’s Development Authority, stated that the authority is committed to enforcing operating regulations for commercial activities. The city’s closure and sealing committee, in cooperation with the police department headed by Colonel Ahmed El Manawi, implemented 36 closure orders in commercial markets in the Youth Housing and Al-Mostaqbal Service Centers. Utilities, including electricity and water, were cut off to prevent re-operation.
Abdel Maqsoud emphasized that legal actions were taken against violators for operating without the required licenses and lacking civil protection approvals. He also urged district heads to conduct regular inspections of all shops in commercial markets to ensure compliance with operating permits and to take immediate action against violators to maintain the city’s orderly and civilized appearance.
