Cairo Governorate has completed preparations for 133 new bookshops at the Azbakeya Wall, established by the Ministry of Housing. These new shops are located just steps away from the original Azbakeya book market.
Dr. Ibrahim Saber, Cairo’s Governor, confirmed that the design of the new bookshops aligns with the heritage character of the area and has been equipped with civil protection systems. They were also designed to facilitate the movement of those who love buying rare and second-hand books.
The bookshops were built in a style that reflects Cairo’s rich history and complements the ongoing development works at Azbakeya Garden, which is approaching its grand reopening. They are equipped with fire safety systems and full civil protection measures. Additionally, the walkways between the bookshops have been named after renowned Egyptian authors and writers, honoring their memory and contributions to Egyptian culture.
Booksellers at the Azbakeya Wall welcomed the move to the new bookshops, expressing gratitude to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for his interest in restoring the cultural and historical charm of Cairo’s heritage areas and reviving their cultural spirit.
The booksellers stressed that the Azbakeya Wall remains one of Cairo’s most iconic cultural landmarks and the largest marketplace for old and rare books.
