Dr. Ibrahim Saber, the Governor of Cairo, confirmed that Azbakeya Garden is undergoing comprehensive development works, including the allocation of new kiosks for book vendors along the Azbakeya Wall. A section of the garden has been designated for these kiosks, which have been established through collaboration between the Ministry of Housing and the Cairo Governorate. This move aims to relocate the book vendors and redevelop the area into a cultural and tourist destination.
The Governor added that the new kiosks are expected to open within approximately one month. He explained that the current renovation efforts in Azbakeya Garden fall within the state’s broader initiative to revive the historical and architectural character of the Khedivial Cairo district, rejuvenate its vibrancy, and reinforce its cultural and tourism role.
The Governor also pointed out that Major General Dr. Khaled Fouda, Advisor to the President for Local Development and Head of the National Committee for the Protection and Development of Historic Cairo, is closely monitoring the ongoing renovation efforts in the Khedivial Cairo area. This is in line with directives from the political leadership to expedite the revival of this heritage-rich district, preserve its uniqueness, and restore its vital role in showcasing Cairo’s architectural and urban identity.
