Achievements and Developments in New Cairo City Projects During 2024

Eng. Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, reviewed the progress of residential and infrastructure projects in New Cairo City, including initiatives under “Sakan Misr,” “Janna,” and “Housing for All Egyptians.” The report highlighted significant achievements and ongoing work during 2024.

Infrastructure Projects

  • 64 utility projects were implemented across various areas such as the eastern extension, Fifth Settlement, First Settlement, Sixth Settlement, southern extension, and Third Settlement. These projects include key future developments like pumping stations, main and secondary networks for water, sanitation, and irrigation.
  • Progress is underway to enhance the water and wastewater systems, focusing on sustainability and readiness for climate changes, population growth, and new communities.

Housing Projects

  • Construction of 222 buildings under the “Housing for All Egyptians” initiative, providing 5,328 units with sizes ranging from 90 m² to 120 m².
  • Completion of 24 buildings (576 units) under the “Janna” project.
  • Progress on 19 buildings (456 units) in the “Sakan Misr” project near the Exhibitions Land in the Third Settlement.

Achievements in Sanitation, Water, and Irrigation

Eng. Abdelraouf El-Ghaity, Head of New Cairo Development Authority, reported:

  • Completion of 10 projects covering 75 km of water, irrigation, and wastewater networks.
  • 54 additional projects underway, spanning 750 km of main and secondary pipelines.
  • Key projects include wastewater pumping stations (Nos. 2, 4, and 12) and associated pipelines in areas like Beit Al-Watan and the Third Settlement.

Advanced Monitoring and Control Systems

  • Implementation of the SCADA system for centralized monitoring of six wastewater pumping stations, ensuring operational efficiency for pumps, valves, and pressure flow measurements.
  • Completion of upgrades to investor extension stations, South Investors Station, and facilities in the industrial zone, including the 80,000 m³/day treatment plant.

Technology Integration

  • Introduction of 60 tablet devices for field inspections to record violations and updates directly into a digital system. This innovation enhances efficiency by linking land inspections to geographic coordinates, reducing errors, and streamlining administrative processes.

These achievements align with the ministry’s goals for comprehensive urban development and infrastructure sustainability in line with Egypt’s vision for growth and investment attraction.
