A delegation from Egypt’s Ministry of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities took part in the General Assembly meetings of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) held in Nairobi, Kenya. The meetings focused on the future of cities and preparing urban environments to face the challenges of climate change.
The events included a high-level session attended by the Executive Director of UN-Habitat, the Minister of Housing of Azerbaijan, and representatives from the United Arab Emirates and Brazil. During this session, the discussions addressed the creation of a joint quadrilateral platform among the four participating countries.
This platform is set to launch during the upcoming World Urban Forum in Azerbaijan and aims to promote urban sustainability by offering actionable implementation strategies for projects that support sustainable urban development.
In conclusion, the continuation of cooperation with UN-Habitat was affirmed to strengthen international initiatives aimed at building more resilient cities capable of withstanding climate challenges. Egypt previously hosted the 12th edition of the World Urban Forum in Cairo, which contributed to enhancing dialogue around sustainable urbanization. Moreover, the Ministry of Housing participated in the launch of the “Resilient Cities” initiative during COP27. This was followed by further initiatives presented at climate conferences in Dubai and Azerbaijan, highlighting Egypt’s ongoing commitment to supporting sustainable urban development.
