Minister of Housing Inspects Nahtai Water Station After Its Development to Serve 21,000 Citizens in Gharbia

Following their meeting at the Gharbia Governorate headquarters, Engineer Sherif El-Sherbini, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, and Major General Ashraf El-Gendy, Governor of Gharbia, began their field tour in Zefta Center yesterday, Saturday, where they inspected the Nahtai artesian water station. The station is included in the presidential initiative “Decent Life.”

The visit aimed to follow up on the execution status and development works at the station, in the presence of representatives from the Ministry of Housing, Gharbia Governorate, several members of Parliament from the governorate, as well as officials from the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater, the National Authority for Potable Water and Sanitary Drainage, the Gharbia Water and Wastewater Company, and the implementing contractors.

The Minister and the Governor listened to a detailed presentation from officials of the Water and Wastewater Company about the station, which extends over an area of 1,128 square meters. Its daily design capacity is 4,920 cubic meters, while the actual average capacity currently stands at around 2,404 cubic meters per day. The project serves about 21,000 residents of Nahtai village, Al-Ghaida village, and several surrounding hamlets through supply networks extending 26 kilometers.

The station consists of four artesian wells, each 100 meters deep, in addition to an overhead tank with a capacity of 100 cubic meters, six pumping units, and a backup power generator to ensure uninterrupted operation. The station also relies on the Zefta filtration plant as an alternative water source, and discharge lines were upgraded from 6-inch to 8-inch pipes to improve operational efficiency.

The development works at the station included upgrading the general site and administrative building, rehabilitating the overhead tank, and increasing the design capacity by more than 100%—from 2,400 to 4,920 cubic meters per day. Additionally, the number of wells was increased by 25% through the addition of a new well with an average production capacity of 1,300 cubic meters per day.

These upgrades doubled the per capita daily water consumption rate, while the supply networks were extended and expanded by 30%, reaching 26 kilometers compared to 20 kilometers previously, after reinforcement works.
