Counselor Mohamed Al-Homsani, the official spokesperson for the Cabinet, commented on the Council’s decision regarding the formation of committees to survey areas subject to the amendments of the Old Rent Law. He explained that the aim of this decision is to determine the minimum rent during the seven-year transitional period.
In a phone interview with TV hosts Aya Abdel Rahman and Lama Gabriel on the “Studio Extra” program broadcast on “Extra News” channel, Al-Homsani clarified that over the next seven years, these committees will work on classifying different areas to determine the minimum rent stipulated by the law. He pointed out that the classification process will take into account several criteria, including the geographic location of the housing unit, the quality and type of building materials used, the average size of units, the facilities connected to the properties, the surrounding road network, and the availability of transportation.
He added that each criterion will be assigned a specific number of points, and units will be classified based on their total score. Units that score 80 points or more will be considered part of premium areas, those scoring between 40 and 80 points will be classified as mid-range areas, while units scoring less than 40 points will be included in economic areas.

Al-Homsani stressed that the committees will complete their work within no more than three months, in accordance with the draft decision. He added that the different classifications and the basis used for the survey process will be announced with full transparency after forming working committees that uphold the highest standards of objectivity and neutrality to ensure complete credibility of the results.
