President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi reviewed the ongoing efforts to improve the management of bakeries, mills, and markets across the country, with a particular focus on the phased establishment of one-day markets. The initiative began with 200 markets launched in November 2024 and is set to expand with more than 200 additional markets scheduled for completion by May 2025.
This was discussed during a meeting that brought together the President, the Prime Minister, the Ministers of Supply and Agriculture, and the Executive Director of the Future of Egypt Authority.
According to Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the meeting confirmed the stability of food security in Egypt, supported by a strategic reserve of essential commodities such as wheat, sugar, oil, meat, and poultry. The country has also secured new contracts for the import of 3.4 million tons of wheat, 192,000 tons of oils, and 10,000 tons of frozen meat and poultry.
The discussion also included diversification of wheat import sources to ensure availability and mitigate potential crises. President El-Sisi emphasized the importance of coordination among state agencies to effectively implement food security policies and increase self-sufficiency. This includes identifying areas for cultivating strategic crops in the New Delta in cooperation with the Future of Egypt Authority.
