President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held a meeting with Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly and several senior officials to discuss the country’s food security. The meeting confirmed the availability of a strategic reserve of essential commodities such as wheat, oil, meat, and poultry. It also reviewed contract details for the procurement of 3.4 million tons of wheat, 192,000 tons of crude oil, 4,000 tons of poultry, and 6,000 tons of meat. The state continues to diversify its sources of wheat imports to mitigate the risks of global supply disruptions.
President El-Sisi stressed the need for coordination among various state institutions to ensure policy alignment and to achieve self-sufficiency, particularly through determining the areas of agricultural cultivation in the New Delta project. The meeting also addressed efforts to enhance the performance of bakeries, mills, and local markets, as well as the monitoring of progress on the establishment of single-day markets. The first phase of this initiative launched in November 2024 with 200 markets, and the second phase is expected to add over 200 more markets by May 2025.
