Hurghada Airport to Be Offered for Private Sector Partnership by Year-End

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has directed the continuation of development efforts for Egyptian airports through international partnerships and private sector involvement, aligning with Egypt’s Vision 2030 to transform airports into advanced regional hubs. He emphasized the importance of creating an attractive investment environment. This came during a meeting with the Minister of Civil Aviation and the Chairwoman of EgyptAir In-Flight Services Company, during which the national strategy to revitalize the aviation sector and increase tourist numbers to 30 million was reviewed. The President also followed up on the progress of the “New Republic Air Gate” project at Cairo Airport, which aims to construct a new passenger terminal with a capacity of 30 million travelers.

Hurghada Airport to Be Offered for Private Sector Partnership by Year-End

The Minister of Civil Aviation outlined the features of the national strategy to involve the private sector in airport operations in cooperation with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), with completion targeted before the end of summer 2025. The strategy aims to develop the aviation sector, enhance operational efficiency, and improve services while maintaining public ownership.

The meeting also addressed the air navigation sector, where Egypt’s air traffic control system was praised for managing increased flight activity—now exceeding 1,600 flights per day. Plans to modernize Egypt’s airspace management were also reviewed.

Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy highlighted EgyptAir’s advancement in passenger service, its receipt of several awards, and a fleet modernization plan aiming to expand to 97 aircraft by 2028/2029. Efforts to enhance EgyptAir In-Flight Services were also reviewed, including infrastructure upgrades and employee training initiatives.
