Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly announced that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has issued directives to ensure the rights of all parties are upheld in the Old Rent Law, taking into consideration the objections raised—particularly those related to the duration of tenancy, rental value, and social implications as discussed in ongoing dialogues.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the version presented by the government is merely an initial draft and that the government is open to receiving any amendments without favoring one side over another.
He added that, in line with the President’s guidance and based on current discussions, the transitional period for rented residential units will be extended beyond that of commercial units.
Additionally, lower rental values will be determined for villages, older neighborhoods, and districts. Special consideration will also be given to residential units allocated for low- and middle-income citizens, with significant reductions in rent in such areas. These measures will be specified in the law’s executive regulations.
