President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held a meeting with Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar. The meeting reviewed the work axes of the ministerial group for human development, including the national project for human development, which aims to increase the number of nurseries and establish 300 human development centers to enhance cultural, educational, and athletic capabilities. Dr. Abdel Ghaffar also presented an overview of the National Strategy for Population and Development, indicating that the annual population growth rate is expected to decrease to 1.34% in 2025 compared to 1.4% in 2024.
The official spokesperson for the Presidency of the Republic stated that President El-Sisi was briefed on national projects in the healthcare sector, where 20 hospitals are being developed or established across 11 governorates at a cost of EGP 11.7 billion. These hospitals will add 2,649 beds, including 458 intensive care unit beds and 442 neonatal incubators. Additionally, 11 hospitals have already been completed in ten governorates, including the Al-Fayrouz Medical Complex in South Sinai and Tanta Hospital in Gharbia, with existing hospitals being equipped with medical equipment by the third quarter of the 2024-2025 fiscal year.
The president also listened to an explanation of the second phase of the Universal Health Insurance System, which covers the governorates of Damietta, Kafr El-Sheikh, Minya, Matrouh, and North Sinai. The plan includes developing 11 hospitals and constructing 19 new hospitals, bringing the total to 65 hospitals with a capacity of 10,517 beds. It also entails the establishment of 534 primary care units and centers at an estimated cost of EGP 115 billion. Furthermore, the Minister of Health reviewed steps to develop an integrated digital healthcare system aligned with Egypt’s Vision 2030, including the creation of electronic health records and the application of artificial intelligence technologies. The president directed the government to expedite the completion of the second phase, adhere to the proposed timelines, and ensure the highest standards of quality.
