President El-Sisi Offers Condolences to His Kenyan Counterpart Over Landslide Victims

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call today from President William Ruto, the President of the Republic of Kenya.

Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the official spokesperson for the Presidency, stated that President El-Sisi extended his sincere condolences to the Kenyan President over the victims of the recent landslide that struck one of the regions in Kenya. He affirmed Egypt’s full solidarity with the victims’ families and the Kenyan people.

The two leaders emphasized the strength of the bilateral relations between Egypt and Kenya, particularly in light of the positive momentum following President Ruto’s visit to Cairo in January 2025. They reaffirmed the importance of enhancing joint cooperation across various fields within the framework of the strategic partnership, including the participation of Egyptian companies in implementing development projects in Kenya.

For his part, President Ruto expressed his deep gratitude for Egypt’s continued support to his country, stressing his keenness to maintain coordination and communication with President El-Sisi to strengthen bilateral cooperation and to consult and exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

The spokesperson added that the call also addressed a number of regional issues. In this regard, President El-Sisi stressed the importance of stability in Sudan, given its direct impact on Egypt’s national security. He reiterated Egypt’s firm stance on preserving the unity and sovereignty of Sudan and supporting its national state institutions.

The President also underscored the urgency of ending the humanitarian crisis facing the Sudanese people, particularly in El-Fasher and surrounding areas. He pointed to Egypt’s ongoing efforts to de-escalate the situation through the Quartet Committee. President Ruto expressed his appreciation for these efforts and his aspiration to continue coordinating with Egypt regarding the Sudanese issue.

The spokesperson further noted that the two leaders discussed the Nile water issue. President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s support for development efforts in Nile Basin countries but emphasized Egypt’s rejection of any harm to its water interests resulting from unilateral actions by Ethiopia.

In turn, President Ruto expressed Kenya’s commitment to promoting economic cooperation among Nile Basin countries without causing harm to any state’s interests, praising Egypt’s support for Kenya’s development projects.

The leaders also discussed the situation in Somalia and the Horn of Africa region. They agreed on the need to intensify efforts to achieve security, stability, and peace across the region, stressing the importance of preserving Somalia’s unity, sovereignty, and the rights of its people.
